Such a beautiful morning

It was a beautiful sunny morning. I was able to sleep in past 6:30 without little ones asking for cereal at 6am. With a smile on my face I reach for my toothbrush only to realize, its wet! Why would my toothbrush be wet when I hadn't used it?
We seem to have this issue with toothbrushes in our house. There are little ones who view toothbrushes the same way they view say, family toys, or silverware. Yes, there are enough for everyone in the house to have their own, but its not personal property. I have made several attempts to change the way my little ones view toothbrushes. I've purchased several. I have proof, there are enough toothbrushes for everyone to have more than one.
All to no avail. And when I asked why someone used my toothbrush, the reply I got with a smile was "I couldn't find mine so, I borrowed yours, but I put it back where I got it from."
I guess I can't argue with that, it was returned. And for those of you wondering, I keep new toothbrushes handy for situations just like this. I'm just not willing to take the chance and put it back in my mouth. It was only yesterday that I had to remind everyone younger than 10 to brush their teeth. Now that I'm thinking about it, chances are they didn't even use my toothbrush for teeth. It may have been for the cat, or the dolls hair, or to draw pictures in the tub with soap.

  1. This is hysterical! I have a story about a toothbrush...and a Barbie. Our daughter was five and I walked in the bathroom to find her brushing Barbie's hair with Daddy's toothbrush. "Don't tell Daddy, he doesn't know. I do it all the time." I remember the words all too well.

We had a little chat about why we don't use toothbrushes for anything other than our teeth. When my husband asked that evening why he had a new toothbrush I could only explain Barbie needed his old one more than him. To this day, he keeps his in a separate container.

    Thanks for the laughs.

  2. That's so funny! There's so many potential things they could have used that toothbrush for!

When my daughter is old enough, I'll have to keep mine hidden so that when in need - she'll choose her Dad's. ;-)

  3. I share everything with my kids - except my toothbrush. Like you, I would find it wet and almost get sick. I found that painting the area between the bristles and the handle with pink nail polish kept my culprit - my son - away! I am a happy mama now!

  4. LMAO! And I was sitting here thinking, "hey, at least they're brushing their teeth without being told. That's more than I can get with my family." I didn't even think that you could be brushing with the same brush that the kids used to get a toy out of the fishbowl! Now I'll think twice!

  5. LOL, thanks for the morning laugh. You are very wise to have extra for these situations. Maybe you need to have a private bathroom?

Congrats on your SITS day. I've added you to my blogroll!

  7. How funny, I loved this post. Extra toothbrushes are always a good idea. I don't have any children but this is like the 3rd "what did they do to my toothbrush" blog I have read by a mother. I think if I ever have kids I am going to keep my toothbrush in a lockbox! LOL.

  11. My kids are crazy about using their toothbrushes as toys too. I think you're right to think your toothbrush was probably used for something other than brushing teeth!

  17. I love it! For some reason it made me think of my favorite book when I was in 8th grade - Who put the hair in my toothbrush by Jerry Spinelli - hehehe. Happy SITS day!

  20. So funny! You are very smart to keep extras. I have to keep or constantly buy new dish sponges because they get used for cleaning things (like car & bicycle parts) that should not be cleaned with something used on dishes.
    Happy SITS feature day!

  22. LOL! This makes me want to go buy a new toothbrush. Who knows what type of debauchery my poor brush has encountered while I wasn't around.

  23. That's funny! Kids only respect personal property when it's THEIRS. If you went in and used one of their toys, there would be some fussing going on, you bet.
