"Why are you still sitting there?"
"Didn't I ask you to........?"
"Why are you looking at me like that? I know you hear me, b/c there is nothing wrong with your hearing."
"and you are still sitting there, uh, NO! I want it done now!"

If this one way conversation is familiar to you, CONGRATULATIONS! You have a stubborn, confused, wanna do their own thing teenager in your house! What happened to that cute, sweet, precious, little boy I brought home a few months ago, ok, well maybe it was more like 13 years ago, but it seems like last week. He used to listen to everything I said and he thought his mommy was the best thing since sliced bread. Now, all of a sudden I have this human walking around who has his own agenda and thinks that I don't have the sense of a slug! What is it about teenage-ism that brings about brain block, hearing loss, the inability to follow directions, and the ability to take your parents from 1 to 10 in a matter of moments? Is there help for the parent of a teen? Is there somewhere I can send him to be re-programmed? For some reason I was under the impression that teen-tude didn't start until somewhere around 16-18yrs, but here I am with a full-fledged 13 year old TEENAGER! After this weekend of dealing with his teen-deafness, teen brain block, teen frustration b/c he can't do whatever he wants whenever he wants completely ignoring how his wants affect the other 5 children and mainly the 2 adults in the house (us parents!), I just want to say a few words that I thought I would NEVER say,
Mom, I am sooooo sorry, but rest assured I am getting it all back. You were so right about it all!

  4. This is my first visit to your blog and I've enjoyed myself. I chose this particular post to comment on because....I'm there...with the teenage STUFF. I just posted yesterday about his attitude. Good grief! It's good to know I'm not alone. I'll be back to visit!

  5. Ha!Ha!Ha! - You SOOOOOO said it right! Teen-ism creeps in at 12 and ebbs out at 16.5 (that's when they start smiling more)- however, that sadly moves into, "I'm a man now" stage which means they think they can sit down with you like an equal - well -there's only room for 2 people on this throne - LOL. I've heard they come back when they're 19 - which my oldest did - briefly ("thanks for the independence with training wheels mom") until they find Mrs. Right - and then, they're like, "Mom? I don't have a mom - I have a wife - who's this mom anyhow?) - It is so nice when other people's children are just like your own - We definitely could have a great time over a cup of coffee!

  6. Oh boy do I remember those days! It's funny how life changes for everybody when the children reach double digit birthdays.
In the beginning it's more of a physical task raising kids...lots of hands-on care, running after them, less sleep, etc. Then things change and it's more psychological and takes more brain-power. OH & Patience to the nth power!
For the record...I'm just saying...my boys' teenage years were more them being mischievous and telling creative stories(lying through their teeth) and my daughters' was pure emotion...I never knew from day-to-day, and sometimes hour-to-hour what mood she'd be in. YIKES. But it seems to regulate fairly quickly and the teenage years aren't so bad after all:)

I know that you & your husband will handle it well...I can tell that you are a strong unit.

"I'm coming.......!!!" to which i reply, No because if you were coming you would have been here by now, we don't live in a 30 room mansion.

    Or:

"I HEARD you" to which I reply

    "And yet...?????"

    >sigh< at least they are not drugging or drinking ora nything else truly rotten. ;)
