Its official.......(drum roll please), I am going on a diet. I am fully convinced that I am too squishy for my own good. Yesterday, was a pretty hot day, so I decided it was time to pull out a pair of shorts from last year. I took much time and care trying on several pairs and I finally decided on a cute little, well maybe not so little, pair of denim shorts. I put them on, turned to several angles while looking in the mirror and decided they looked pretty nice. They are made out of the stretchy denim material so they even seemed to be holding me together a little. Feeling confident in my choice I walked downstairs. My oldest daughter immediately noticed that I was wearing shorts and joyfully says, "Oh mom, u look C-UTE!" I quickly responded with, "Thanks Baby!" I usually only wear shorts on vacation in extremely hot weather, and even then capri pants are going to be my first choice. So, OK, I was really feeling confident, when she (meaning my 3 year old, who talks entirely too much, always asking the questions you don't want to answer, never lying, but the one who always knowing everything) she, said, "Mommy, oh my God, what happened to your legs right there?"
me: "Where baby? What are you talking about?"
she: "Right there, does it hurt? Did you hurt it?"
I was horrified. Is she pointing to my cellulite? Yes, she is pointing to the cellulite on my thighs that is no doubt the product of having so many babies, and the love of cheesecake, and the dislike of exercise contributed to!
me: "There is nothing wrong with mommy's leg. It doesn't hurt."
she: with a smile, "Oh, Ok. I like your shorts mommy."
me: turning to go upstairs and change, "thanks baby."
So back to my initial statement, Its official I am on a diet! Any suggestions? What diets have you found work the best?
You and me, both. You and me, both. In my case, juicy doesn't cover it. Back on the bandwagon starting today!
ReplyDeleteHoly Cow! Hahaha I would be mortified! Leaving some Friday bloggy love from SITS
ReplyDeleteI declare nothing works for me or maybe because I get so frustrated with the non-results.
ReplyDeleteRight there with you girl! My 6 year old drew a family picture yesterday. The likeness of me was noticebly "thicker" than everyone else. :)
ReplyDeleteOut of the mouth of babe's! While I am sure you look great, as we are so hard on ourselves, I however am right there with you.
ReplyDeleteWhat I have been doing is something I'm calling the moderation diet. I'm not cutting out anything, just cutting back on everything (you know actually paying attention to serving sizes), drinking water and exercising.
Hi Courtney,
ReplyDeleteI found you on SITS. I've been half heartedly trying to lose weight since Easter. I've blogged about it. If you want to see my weekly posts look under weight loss journey in my topics sidebar. Good luck. Hope you win the race:)
Aww. Kids are so sweet and innocent. I'm glad my little one doesn't talk much yet...I should probably lose some weight before he can!
ReplyDeleteOh dear, out of the mouths of babes, huh? I find walking an hour a day helps. I must start doing it again, LOL
ReplyDeleteOuch! It's sweet that she was worried you might be in pain.
ReplyDeleteUgh! I hate dieting, but I know I need to. Did you ever find a diet that you are happy with? If it involves eating Doritos and sitting on the couch, I'm in!
ReplyDeleteAwww.. bless her heart. I hate dieting too. I enjoy food too much, and cheesecake will be the death of me.
ReplyDeleteAll I know is when I cut out pop and munchies, I lost weight. Adding exercise can't hurt either, but with 6 kids, somehow I think you get plenty of walking in.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your SITS day!
My son could say the same thing.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on SITS!
Oh dear, kids really have no filter, do they? Sometimes it's cute, though. For me, I've been actively trying to lose weight for about 6 months now, mostly by working with a trainer and focusing on portion size. I tend to eat too much, and I know it. It's not so much that I eat bad things (though I love cake), it's just that I have too much of things, so I focus on trying to listen to my body as to when it's actually hungry and eat smaller portions of the things I like. So far, it's working pretty well, it's just slow going. I try to go to my local Y at least 3 times a week for 45-60 minutes of exercise, partly for the exercise and partly because I can leave my toddler with the nursery and have some child-free time. Best of luck to you! Happy SITS Day!
ReplyDeleteawww. kids are too funny.
ReplyDeletebest weight loss tip that worked for me (to a point) was drinking water. i just didn't before, but then realized that most of the time i ate i wasn't even hungry, i was thirsty. water makes me feel full :)
good luck and enjoy your day in the SITS sun!
Kids say the darndest things! I have many hurts, unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteI know how you feel! Losing some weight had to be one of my New Year's Resolutions. It is sweet she was worried about you though. My sister had a baby about 5 months ago and the last time she went to the doctor (months after having the baby) they wanted a urine sample and she asked why? Apparently the nurse still thought she was pregnant.
ReplyDeleteAw...kids!
ReplyDeleteHope the diet is going well!
aww -- but she did compliment your shorts! Im sure it was nothing.
ReplyDeleteKids are funny like that...
My son recently asked about someone "Mama when is her baby coming out?" ... and the woman was not pregnant.... talk about embarrassing?
OMG, how cute is that!
ReplyDeleteoh my.....
ReplyDelete:-)
Hope you're still at it simply because exercise is great for much more than our weight. I wish you success and know we are all here rooting for you.
Oh I could hear my littlest saying something like that too me.
ReplyDeleteWeight Watcher worked for me... lifetime member now and 45 lbs lighter.
Kids are too cute...and they have no fliter! My son told me I had a big belly recently. Probably because I put on a good 7 pounds over the holidays! Happy SITS day...love your blog and I'm following now.
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome!! It's like my dad saying "wow your stomach is kinda big". Hello?? Didn't you get the memo on NEVER talking about a woman's weight? At least your comment came from a 3 year old! :D Happy SITS!!
ReplyDeleteKids sure have a way of pointing out the things we really don't want them too!
ReplyDeletelol oh no! Kids are so funny. Happy SITS day!
ReplyDeleteOh, my gosh! Kids say the darndest things. Stopping by from SITS.
ReplyDeleteFunny!! Out of the mouths of babes.
ReplyDelete:-)
Out of the mouths of babes! At least she was worried about you being hurt--sweet and loving sentiment--instead of just saying "mommy's fat." My nephew said that to my mom once, and recently, my older nephew told my mom (his grandma) that she could take him for snowboarding lessons, but she couldn't try it herself. He said, "I don't need you falling and breaking a hip, grandma!" Where he got that at 8 years old, we'll never know. It sure was funny though, and it really threw my mom (in her early 50's) for a loop!
ReplyDeleteStopping by from SITS on YOUR DAY.... squishy eh? Yeah, it's official for me too! Day on of my healthy lifestyle is today. Good luck SITStah!

got to love those kiddos - NO filter, just calling 'em as they see 'em. Best wishes to you!
ReplyDeleteHilarious... you gotta love the honesty of children!!
ReplyDeleteWeight Watchers is the best! Good luck.

Oh dear!
ReplyDeleteVisiting from SITS. I totally hear ya!
ReplyDeleteI'm here from SITS and I know exactly what you're talking about!
ReplyDeleteOh, thanks to our children for getting us thinking of dieting:) I hope it's going well.
ReplyDeleteLeave it to kids to tell it like it is! No filtering involved!
ReplyDeleteJust stopped by from SITS; enjoy your day in the sun!
My son (also 3) recently pointed to a picture in his book showing a fat bear and a thin bear. He pointed to the thin bear and said "That's Daddy", guess what he said when he pointed to the fat bear? Oy. Hope your weight-loss is going well!
ReplyDeleteWow! I think the main thing is only eat something when you are hungry. I think sometimes we just eat for other reasons but you have to listen to your body. I'm sure you are already getting exercise running after all your kids. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteVisiting from SITS...and I'm starting my weight loss / getting into shape program too!
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
Ps. great blog :)
And we teach kids that honesty is the best policy...ha! Stopped by from SITS.
ReplyDeleteLOL Their honesty is sometimes a little too honest in our house too.:)LOL If you find a good diet, let me know. Right now, we're just trying to eat healthier and at least try to exercise every day. We got a Wii Fit Plus, which was cheaper than joining a gym, and we can use it here at home....which makes it easier with little ones.
ReplyDeleteha!!! Kids say the darndest things dont they!! lol too cute!
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain! I am right there with ya SITSta! Kids are just so HONEST!
ReplyDeleteUgh, I have been there. It's a tough thing learning to love ourselves as we are, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteHappy SITS day!
Oh my gosh I'm so sorry you heard that from your daughter. I know that could hurt. My daughter {only being 2} will come up to me when I bend over and yell big butt. {Thanks to her dad who thanks it funny} I hope I can break her of the habit before she starts school.
ReplyDeleteLeave it to kids to nail you right where it hurts! Happy SITS day!
ReplyDeleteKids have a way of being brutally honest, don't they? :)
ReplyDeleteMy toddler pointed at my stomach a few months ago and said...icky. Such a sweet boy. I promptly started working out. Ah ha ha
ReplyDelete"Squishy".....lol. That's what my daughter has called me as well!
ReplyDeleteGotta love the honesty of the little ones, huh?
ReplyDeleteHappy SITS day!
That's cute! It's so funny how kids say things and mean nothing by it, but it almost makes us want to cry!
ReplyDeleteGood luck...I feel squishy myself.
ReplyDeleteHappy SITS.

Oh dear! That's like when my daughter screamed in the dressing room at Kohl's, "Mom! What happened to your underwear?" When I laughed and said, "That's the way they are supposed to be honey. They are g-string undies," she replied, "Oh! It looks like your butt ate them." After listening to the laughs in the adjoining dressing rooms, my diet started the next day. :)
ReplyDeleteLOL! Oh aren't the kids wonderful! My son was the same way, never thought twice about telling you it as he saw "it" They say the darndest things.
ReplyDeleteHappy SITs day!
Can't you blame the kids? My body's never been the same! :)
ReplyDeleteHappy SITS day!
ReplyDeleteI'm right there with you. My daughter did nothing to help my figure, although neither did the ice cream and wine.
LOL, cute. I found 'diets' don't work.
ReplyDeleteThat is hilarious! I better take care of mine before my little guy can ask me what's wrong with my legs!
ReplyDeleteAh yes, you have to love how kids are not afraid to voice what they are thinking.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh kids are waaayyy too honest aren't they? ;)
ReplyDeleteI don't believe in diets, just changing certain things in your diet is the way to go...I know this is an older post and you probably have already lost all of your weight but if not, try and eliminate processed flour and sugar and not only will you feel better but weight drops off of you too. :)
Thank gosh that little episode happened within the comfort/privacy of your own home. Three year olds are great at pointing out the embarrassing stuff. They're lucky to be so honest as they too will have to fib someday. Congrats on being the featured SITS blog!
ReplyDeleteI would have done the same thing. Even in summer I got for pants or long shorts. because I'm so short capri's dont work. grr
